The Best Platforms to Grow an Audience in 2025
I analyzed every major social media platform. These are the best ones.

Today, there are nearly endless places to grow an online audience.
But, deciding on a platform can feel overwhelming. So, I’ve gone ahead and compiled every major social media platform, along with:
Traffic results
Audience metrics
Social media pairings
I hope, by the end of this post, you will have everything you need to start growing an audience in 2025.
Let’s get into it…
Not all platforms were created equal.
If there’s anything I’ve learned over the years, it’s this:
Numbers don’t lie. 🧮😤
Analyzing metrics is an integral part of growing online because it allows you to remain objective. Yes, intuition is a powerful skill. But, the truth is, our brains lie to us constantly.
As a form of self-preservation, we will greatly embellish or diminish our experiences based on our emotions.
Which, in turn, shapes our perception.
If you love Instagram, for example, you may overlook the fact that your target audience doesn’t use the platform. And, may resist posting to Facebook, because you’ve heard “it’s for old people”.
When setting out to complete any task, it’s important to use the right tool for the job. Here are the best platforms to build an engaged audience this year…
10 behemoths of industry.
To break the 4th wall, this newsletter is about writing online. So, I’ve added a list of writing-specific platforms to the bottom of this section.
But, I wanted to start by sharing platforms anyone can use to create any type of content — in any niche.
What you will find below is a list of the top 10 social media platforms to grow an online audience. Plus, key data points such as:
Traffic metrics: to assess potential views
Audience demographics: to shape an audience profile
Referring platforms: to understand what platforms pair well
Plus, anecdotal advice to help shape your content strategy.

4. Twitter/X

I made a very similar post to this one last year. You can read it here. You’ll notice some of the platforms didn’t make the cut this year. This is largely due to a drop in traffic or overall popularity.
Final thoughts: what to do with this data.
As important as analytics are, creating online content is full of intangibles.
Namely, the fact that you are a human being. And, as such, you likely won’t stick with something unless your heart is in it. So, I would recommend choosing platforms:
You can see yourself growing on
Fit your content/business goals
Then, create a plan and start experimenting. You won’t know how you feel about a particular platform until you try it out.
So, I wouldn’t discount the power of trial and error.
I hope this breakdown has made your decision a little easier. Or, at the very least, saved you valuable time.
Happy writing!

Definitely not Medium rn...
Great job with this. I wonder how many readers truly look at social media to find a read. For example, IG was built as a picture platform and now reels are big. I feel the people looking at IG are looking for that form of stimulation, not a book or blog to read. Wouldn’t content creation work best on that type of platform ?
