As a freelance writer and copywriter, I've certainly noticed how AI has created a shift in what clients want and expect, and even in their willingness to pay. It's reached a point where I am exhausted and I know I need to pivot somehow. I just don't know how to yet. This article is very insightful and gives me food for thought.

Are you writing on any revenue-sharing platforms like Medium or a personal blog? 🙂💭

No, not for myself. I have done for clients.

I see. It could be smart to start your own profile. That way, you have more control over your earnings. Plus, as your audience grows, you can charge more for your freelance work. 🙂 🙌

Enjoyed this article, and I appreciate the tip about audio becoming more important!

Re: Google and SEO, mind you, changes are afloat. But like you said, diversifying where we share content should help with that.

Yes! I saw that -- it seems like Google is backtracking a little on how they priortize content. Which, which will be nice for small blogs.

And, thanks! The one piece of feedback I received already is that my readers don't like the A.I. voices. 😅 Next week, I'm going to do the voiceover myself and see how people like it. 🙋‍♂️

This is awesome Hudson! I resonate with everything you're saying here. I started writing on Medium consistently in 2020 just before the downward spiral and I've also experimented with other platforms like Twitter and LinkedIn. I totally agree that education and audio are the future of online writing--which makes Substack so beneficial.

Agreed! Customization is everything nowadays. So, I really like all the tools Substack offers. Although, admittedly, I’m much more accustomed to a revenue-sharing model. So, learning how to convert paid subscribers has been challenging thus far. 🤔💭

Ya, I totally get that. I'm more used to the rev sharing model as well. I haven't added an option that allows my newsletter to be paid yet, but I guess it's just about experimenting what people like for free and then doing more of that for the paid version.

Yes, it's a whole new world. It's sometimes fun to be a beginner again.

Also, I would like to gently nudge you toward adding a paid option. Your time is valuable and you can still continue offering free posts until you work out a strategy you like. 😇 💪

Thank you for that advice Hudson. Ya, I've seen a lot of people who don't have many free subscribers still offering a paid version. But right now I'm just reposting old Medium articles to get a rhythm going. Once those run out, I'll add a paid option, but I'm definitely thinking about my offer.

Loved this list Hudson!

I think the key is finding the right (or write lol) platform that works for you and your needs/wants. For me, I use both Medium & Substack as they each provide their own advantages.

Thanks! And, I totally agree. I often say, "What works for you is what works. Period." I think I even wrote it in this post. 😆🙌
