I Decided to Make Some Changes. I Hope You Like Them.
Here's what you can expect from Writer's Hub
My vision for Writer’s Hub has always been this:
To create a community of like-minded writers — working together toward a common goal. ✍️ 🙌
With each new post acting as a weekly roundtable, we can share our unique experiences, strategies, and tools. Or, ask valuable questions.
And, while the community is steadily growing, I feel as though logistics have been hindering our growth.
So, I’m making a few changes…
Truthfully, I still struggle with the logistics of running an online business. If I controlled the universe, my perfect business would look like this:
I create the best content I can for you
If you like it, you consume it, and I get paid
The first part, I think of as my duty. 🫡
So, since starting this newsletter, I’ve been sharing my best strategies for making money as a writer.
But, the ‘getting paid’ part… that’s where things get a little tricky.
At the end of the day, I’m a human who needs money to survive. And, on Substack, the only ways to make money are:
Convert paid subscribers
Sell or promote products/services
In an attempt to keep this newsletter free of pesky promotions, I’ve been experimenting with different ways to convert paid subscribers.
My goal with each new post is to 10X your monthly subscription — either by making or saving you money.
And, although I’m admittedly biased, I feel as though I’ve been following through on this promise.
But, the problem is, paywalling posts means less people get to see them. And, I feel as though it’s hindering our ability to share knowledge with each other.
So, I’m making a few changes to get these weekly conversations started…
What this means for you.
Personally, making money online has always been a balance between creating content I feel good about — and, what pays the bills.
Clickbait, promotion, and aggressive marketing don’t appeal to me. So, I’ve naturally gravitated towards platforms that pay based on read/watch time:
But, Substack is a little different.
On Substack, reads don’t mean anything on their own. It’s about what you do with them. So, for the past few months, I’ve been paywalling every 2nd or 3rd post. And, thus far, it has felt like a reasonable balance between passion and profit.
But, truthfully, on paywalled weeks, it’s been a little lonely in the comment section. So, I’ve devised a new strategy I’m hoping will suit everyone’s needs…
💰 For paid subscribers:
If you are a paid subscriber of this newsletter, very little will change for you. You will still receive:
Unlimited posts
🎁 Plus, gain access to my personal DMs: where you can ask me questions and receive personalized support. I dedicate Thursdays and Fridays to chatting with paid subscribers.
💸 For free subscribers:
If you’re a free subscriber, here’s where things will change. For one, you will now have access to all posts for a limited time (2-3 weeks).
This means, you will now be able to:
Read every post
View comments
Leave questions
After a set time, I will turn on the paywall. You can unlock all past posts, at any time, by becoming a paid subscriber. 💌 👇
Final thoughts: my overarching goal.
Ultimately, building a community means considering everyone’s needs.
So, I’m hoping these changes will allow those of you who can’t afford a monthly subscription to still participate in valuable conversations. While, granting the option to become a paid subscriber, if you can afford it.
With the ultimate goal of helping you:
Make more money
Save more money
Or, maybe you’d just like to rack up some extra karma points by supporting this newsletter. ❤️⚡️
