Here's a Collection of Free Writing Tools Stuffed Inside a Digital Backpack
30+ tools to increase your writing income
For the past year, I’ve been secretly working on my pièce de résistance.
A complete organizational tool I call The Writing Dashboard.
Organizing my content and monetization methods in one spot has been the most lucrative habit I’ve adopted. But, to be honest, you don’t need a fancy tool like mine.
There are tons of free writing tools available online. Here are some of my favourite…
My secret monetization weapon.
Writing involves deep thought.
Which, often interrupts the quick-thinking nature of modern life. So, for me, having a place to house all of my ideas has been incredibly beneficial. And, over the past year, I’ve been shaping my Notion app into an all-encompassing workspace:
Tables
Guides
Affiliate programs
Monetization methods
Everything you need to write, plan, strategize, and execute your writing goals.
But, truthfully, you don’t need a fancy workspace to make strides in your writing. And, about 80% of the tools I use are completely free.
So, I wanted to share them with you.
Feel free to use the following free tools at your discretion…
#1. Stock image websites: 🖼️
Every piece of online content is made up of 3 parts:
Hook
Image
Headline
Headlines get readers to click, hooks keep them engaged, and a captivating image ties a bow on the whole package.
Truthfully, Unsplash is the only website you’ll ever need. But, it can be nice to have options. So, here are 13 free stock image websites to choose from:
Canva (sources its images from Pexels & Pixabay)
#2. Google Research tools: 🔎
Google has created some of the most underrated tools on the internet. These 3 are essential for writers:
Google Trends: 📈
See what topics are trending historically and in real time.
Google Keyword Planner: 📊
Discover popular keywords to use in your headlines and hooks.
To gain access to the keyword planner, create a free Google Ads account. Then, go to Tools » Keyword Planner. 💡
Google News: 🗞️
See what’s trending on the internet. And, what headlines are working.
Click on the gear icon to toggle for specific regions. 💡
#3. Headline tools ✏️
Headlines are the most important aspect of any piece of writing. Here are 3 tools to nail yours:
Capitalize my title (for title case)
Sharethrough (headline analyzer tool)
Monster Insights (headline analyzer tool)
#4. Editing tools 📝
Editing is one of the most time-consuming aspects of writing online. So, I recommend adding an editing tool to your web browser:
Grammarly is my favourite
ProWritingAid is another popular tool
The Hemmingway Editor is also handy for assessing the readability of your writing. 💡
#5. Graphic design tools 🎨
In life (and the internet), image is everything. Here are 3 tools to create an attractive online presence:
TinyPNG (to compress images)
Canva (for all your graphic design needs)
Capcut (to make videos and voiceovers for your writing)
#6. A.I. tools 🤖
Ironically, A.I. is the natural evolution of the internet.
So, although you might not want to use it to write, it can be used to help expedite your writing process. Here are 3 tools I recommend:
ChatGPT (for custom images, research, and interactive editing)
TubeBuddy (analyze current trends based on YouTube search results)
ReadPartner (quickly summarize websites and videos to avoid clickbait)
Finally, more tools just like these.
